A topic dermatitis, commonly known as Eczema, is quite common. In fact, the Mayo Clinic says there are more than 3 million cases every year, just in the US alone. Every single case being equally annoying and uncomfortable is mutually agreed upon. We do not want our poor babies going through this. Since Eczema is such a common and all-around terrible condition for children and parents alike, here are some of our best solutions.

Best Products for Baby Eczema

  • 1. Aveeno Baby Eczema Bath Treatment

    (Best value — $)

Why it’s great: Aveeno is an established and trusted brand that provides great products. This gentle oatmeal bath is one of them. It is mild enough for everyday use and contains many natural ingredients. Free from all parabens, fragrances, and steroids, parents can feel comfortable adding this to even a newborns bath. The package says eczema treatment, but it can also help to sooth different poisons, skin irritations, and insect bites. We have also made a paste with it to apply to more direct spots.

Keep in mind: Every person and their bodies are uniquely different so results may vary. Also, the oatmeal powder tends to coat the bottom of the tub and can be extremely slippery. Not to worry though, it rinses right off with the showerhead!

Good for: Even the youngest of babies will be safe using this product a couple times a week.

  • 2. Aveeno Baby Eczema Nighttime Balm

    (Best balm — $$)

Why it’s great: Obviously, Aveeno would recommend more of their products used together. However, this balm really does pair wonderfully with their oatmeal bath. Like the great qualities of their bath treatment, Aveeno has stuck to using natural ingredients in this balm. This product is similar to a lotion or ointment, only a little thicker, which results in less mess using this during a bedtime routine. It dries quickly and does not leave any greasy residue on clothes or sheets.

Keep in mind: Results vary. Aveeno has been around since 1945 and would love to guarantee results. Unfortunately, due to allergies and personal conditions it is impossible. We hope your family receives the same beneficial results from their products as we do.

Good for: Infant to adult. Pediatrician recommended, and safe for everyday use.

  • 3. Maty’s Baby Eczema Relief

    (Best organic ointment — $)

Why it’s great: Customers can tell as soon as they open the container that this ointment was thoughtfully created by a concerned parent. It smells gentle, natural, and fresh. This brand may not be a household name yet, but it should be. All Maty’s products use the best natural ingredients, are hypoallergenic, and are great for sensitive skin of all ages. Children could eat this stuff and be fine. That is a joke, please do not purposefully ingest! However, there’s nothing in it that could hurt us. The creator of Maty’s products believes in looking to mother nature for naturally soothing ingredients instead of pharmaceutical companies. We have had much better luck with organics over prescriptions, we definitely recommend.

Keep in mind: This product is made with multiple plants and oils that even though they are organic, it could not work for everyone. Be sure to look over the list of ingredients and double-check for current known allergies.

Good for: Parents who love a chemical free life and enjoy finding more natural remedies.

  • 4. Manuka Ultra Soothing Cream

    (Best natural cream — $$$)

Why it’s great: This non-GMO plant-based natural cream uses the benefits of organic manuka honey and colloidal oats to make a smooth cream safe for all ages. Some people do not know that honey is a superfood that contains natural elements which heal and moisturize skin. Honey also has amazing anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that have been used to heal many conditions dating all the way back to the cave man days. This cream instantly relieves itchiness and lasts long enough that a once-a-day application should work, but is safe enough to use as often as needed. This company also works hard to reduce its carbon footprint by using less plastic for packaging which is always a good practice.

Keep in mind: Although this cream uses many natural and organic ingredients, this product is not 100% organic and may still contain some chemicals. If you are a strict fully organic family, this may not be the best option.

Good for: All ages that prefer a cream over ointments and sprays.

  • 5. Mustela Baby Skin Care Set

    (Best full set — $$$)

Why it’s great: This full package contains a cream-like lotion, a gel-like wash, and an airy foam like a light shampoo. All these products are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and safe for newborns. The set promotes uses for all skin types from normal to extra sensitive. Mustela is accepted by the national eczema association and is made with naturally derived ingredients. This set gave our family a good general idea of which form of treatment is most enjoyed by the kids.

Keep in mind: Not all products are received equally. Our kiddo loves the foam and the gel wash. However, says the lotion feels sticky and prefers other creams that dry faster. Again, this is a personal preference and varies with different skin types and other determining factors.

Good for: A wide range of products to determine what each individual child is most receptive too.

  • 6. Honest Eczema Cream

    (Best quality product — $$)

Why it’s great: The Honest Company was created by actress Jessica Alba. After having her first baby, she was trying to protect her delicate child from all the harsh chemicals used in today’s products. The Honest brand was the wonderful result. Both children and adults can benefit from this wonder cream. It is safe for pregnant moms and newborn babies but strong enough for all ages. Containing prebiotics, colloidal oatmeal, coconut oil, and safflower oil, all contributing to the safety and effectiveness of this cream. Free of parabens, petrolatum, steroids, and silicones, this cream along with other Honest products is a favorite in our home.

Keep in mind: We love this cream and have used it multiple times a day, especially if it is a dry day. Sometimes the 7-ounce tube seems to disappear quickly. We haven’t found it in bulk yet.

Good for: All ages and skin types that prefer creams.

(Best spray on treatment — $$)

Why it’s great: This spray form of treatment targets the bacteria in skin that is said to cause 70% of chronic eczema. Although the Skinsmart brand is on the newer side of eczema products, it is 100% hypoallergenic and approved by the national eczema association. Harmless for all ages, this prescription-strength product is safe to be sprayed directly around the mouth, eyes, and other sensitive areas. The cool mist feels refreshing, calms irritated skin, and stops itching instantly.

Keep in mind: Safe? Yes! Natural and Organic? No. However, anyone who has put bleach on poison knows that it can be extremely effective and relieving.

Good for: Active children who do not sit still long enough to rub creams and lotions on. Just spray and go.
