Twins are often born prematurely, so you’ll want to make sure you have everything ready to go long before your actual due date. You can definitely wait until you find out their genders, but you’ll want to start at least collecting items around 13-20 weeks to make sure you’re prepared in time.
No, you don’t have to buy double the stuff just because you’re having twins. There are plenty of items that are made for twins, so you don’t have to buy two. For example, you can get a double stroller, a playard designed for twins, a tandem carrier, a double bassinet, and so much more. Also, your babies can share some items. For example, likely, you won’t be able to give both babies a bath simultaneously, so only one baby bath is necessary. Think about when and how you’ll be using items and look for gear designed for twins.
There are a few items that you will need to make sure you get for each baby. The most important is their own bassinet or crib. You can certainly buy one that’s designed for twins, as long as it separates the two. AAP safety guidelines recommend that babies have their own sleeping space. This obviously means that as they get older, you’ll need two separate cribs as well. You’ll also need to buy two car seats if you want to go anywhere with both children.
